Ansbach, town of Franconian Rococò
Like no other town in Franconia, Ansbach abounds in Rococò. Baroque facades as well as in half hidden Renaissance inner courtyards. The twenty- seven State Rooms of Margraves Palace, the Orangerie and its park, the mighty Gumbertus church and Johannis Church all stand testimony to the illustrious past of this former residential town. This also happens to be the ancestral home of a long line of Hohenzollern princes, that you will experience as you explore the Margrave’s Museum where the extensive Kaspar-Hauser section illustrates the life of this mysterious foundling. The city’s historic buildings provide a most brilliant setting for the annual Rococò Festival and the International Bach Festival. While the charm of the surronding area is the perfect background to the various cultural, leisure and sporting activities, the capital of the government of Middle Franconia proves itself an absolutely wonderful place along the most romantic Castles Route. |
